Celebrity name dropping Thursday, January 18, 2007 |

So I found out this week that my 10 year old little brother is best friends with Jean Claude Van Dame's son. (yeah, no joke) He went down to Disneyland for the weekend with his family and it got me to thinking about all of the celebs I've met. Although I did live in So Cal for awhile I still have met very few. Here is a collection of the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Although I don't read Us Weekly and don't consider myself a celebrity worshiper, I still think its interesting to hear people talk about meeting famous people if anything just to hear what they were like in real life.

Pat Wilson (Drummer, Weezer): Hung out with him at Mykel and Carli's house back in the day. As well when he was on tour we hung out at his house. He is totally a normal nice guy that just happens to be in a great band.

David Priner (lead singer, Soul Asylum): met him after a concert in Portland. He was drunk and acted like a rockstar. I asked him how Wynona was...he said "good, maaaaaan."

Jason Shwartzman and Selma Blair (actor/rockstar drummer, actress): Met them at a Phantom Planet show. Selma needed a bra in a bad way but was wearing a great T & C Surf Design T-shirt. Both were really nice and actually more indie rock than Hollywood.

Art Alezkis (lead singer, Everclear) Talked to him for 15 minutes at the Portland Airport about my mom's Toyota Matrix. Looked haggard but was uber-nice and was interested in a low MPG car.

Trevor Snarr (See picture above): OK so he's probably only known for being the worst actor in Napoleon Dynamite but he was a mission buddy of mine and a good kid.

How about you, readers of my blog? I want to hear some serious celebrity name dropping and the attached stories. If I can get you to come out of your little holes and participate.

PS My mom was invited into the hotel room of the 70's rock group "Bread" after hanging out with them after a show. She declined though. :-) My dad met Muhammad Ali. He wins hands down.

Reason number 7,691 that I love Apple Thursday, January 11, 2007 |

I know what your thinking and no I'm not going to blog about how amazing and innovative the iPhone is or why I love my macs. However, I am going to relate an experience that I just had which only reaffirms my Apple fanboydom. I recently got around to purchasing the apple care protection plan for both my macs. As a side note being a techie, I am a firm believer in buying the best warranty available for any expensive tech device, it has saved my butt more times then I can count. Anyway, yesterday I ordered apple's protection plan for both my computers and checked the cheapest and slowest delivery method since I was in no rush to receive them. As I'm getting ready to go this morning I notice there is a package waiting for me where we get our mail. You can guess the rest of the story. I looked back at when my order was placed to when it was on my door step and it came out to be an amazing 19 hours! And thats with free shipping. It's good to be an apple user.

Kidd Abuse Wednesday, January 10, 2007 |

Over the past few days there has been a story about one of the NBA's best divorcing from his wife due to abuse. Most of the news outlets are playing the story as silly and almost ludicrous that an NBA player could be abused by his wife. I seriously take issue with this assumption. Yes, Jason Kidd is 6' 4" , his wife 5'2" and the circumference of their sons head about 3 times the size of mine (and I do have a huge head) but that is beside the point. Abuse is abuse regardless of the abusers size and it is silly to not believe an individual just because he is larger than their abuser. I realize that he also happens to be male and she female and its a seriously taboo for a big tough NBA player to claim that his cute little wife has been abusive but still. There is a serious double standard there and I think that this part of the dark underbelly of the feminist movement. In this case the pendulum has swung to far to the other side. I just thought that I'd air my grievances.

An end to redundancy Sunday, January 07, 2007 |

So in an attempt to put things in their proper place and simplify I'll be moving my project of taking a picture a day (otherwise known as Ry's 365) exclusively to my flickr.com page. I'll put a permenant link in the side bar and also on my webpage. Not to worry though I will continue to blog here and share my random meanderings. I even think that I'll be blogging a little more now that I am on the last chapters of my thesis and since I wont be posting my pics here.

Here is the link to my flickr page:
