"Loving father, Blazer believer, Tech junkie, Indie rock aficionado, Doting husband, Former Flux Capacitor lead singer, LDS church member, Apple fanatic, VT Hokie, Matrix owner, photographer, Wes Anderson admirer, BYU Cougar, ridiculously optimistic, marriage and family therapist. "
One of my favorite bands is Rilo Kiley and for the longest time the lead singer, Jenny Lewis, looked so familiar to me. But I tucked that thought away and told myself that I was being silly and that she probably just had one of those faces. It wasn't until I saw her in a Postal Service video that I realized that I HAD seen her in something. Turns out she was a child actress during the 80's and her filmography included a movie that is the video gamer's equivalent to a football player's "Rudy". Thats right, she played a lead role in the movie "The Wizard" co-staring with Fred Savage. She was also in movies such as "Troop Beverly Hills" and "Pleasentville". My point? I don't have one. I just thought it was odd and I'm glad I can put that issue to rest. :-)
I'll make this short because it seems like every blogger is writing about it but I had to give my 2 cents. No its not the Don Imus fiasco (I love that word). It's the passing of one of my very favorite authors: Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Up until the year 2000 I wasn't much of a reader. Sure I loved Salinger in high school but other than that it bored me terribly. Reading for fun was an oxymoron. Until a friend of mine introduced me to his work. I remember working in a movie theater at the time and reading a collection of his short stories called "Welcome to the Monkey House" while in the ticket booth during the slow times. I was totally blown away and couldn't stop reading. Although he is on the border of the genre, I would have to say that he is responsible for introducing me to a form of science fiction (the non space or aliens type). He really helped me to love reading and for that I'll be forever grateful. So I will close now with some of my favorite quotes of his:
"True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country. "
"The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest."
"The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal."
If you haven't seen it, Justin.tv is a 24/7 live feed of this guy that has committed to wear a camera FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! Almost like a real life Truman show /EdTV. Sounds boring but its actually quite compelling and interesting. Check it out from his site: www.justin.tv or just check the embedded video.
